Others say it is from the Latin root re, which means things or real. The U.S. constitution originally limited voting privileges to owners of actual land. Other people refer to this as “real estate,” “estate”foreclosure.”

There are various types of real estate that you can own including land, structures, buildings, etc. The most common type of realty is residential property. Residential realty includes houses, condos, apartments, townhouses, mobile homes, single family houses, condominiums, duplexes, tracts, plots, etc.

Commercial property is very different than residential realty. Commercial property is property that is for sale for more than personal use. Commercial properties include warehouses, industrial parks, manufacturing plants, shopping centers, office complexes, shopping centers, malls, strip malls, office buildings and parking lots. Commercial realty is usually sold under an assumption name, which is where the name is derived from, such as “Strollers’ Row,” “The Big Box,” “Discovery Square,” etc. It is not always possible to sell residential realty under an assumption name and this is what makes selling commercial property so much more difficult.

Commercial property is also sometimes purchased through financing. Commercial mortgage lending involves a buyer paying the seller for the right to own the commercial property as security. This is often referred to as an “assignment of security.” Some realtors will offer to arrange a mortgage loan for the buyer for a fee. However, some brokers will charge a commission on the amount of the loan.

Some realty brokers offer realty mortgages. These are loans that are made by banks. There are different types of mortgage loans. For example, fixed rate mortgages and adjustable rate mortgages. Many times, there are two types of mortgage loans; and these are fixed rate and variable rate mortgages. Fixed rate mortgages have a set interest rate for an extended over the life of the loan, while adjustable-rate mortgages go up and down over time.
